Reach-ins, prep tables, and display cases · Seattle

Describe the reach-in or prep-table problem as you see it.

Commercial reach-ins, undercounter units, prep rails, and display cases can warm up, ice over, leak, or run constantly. Record what you can observe without opening the unit’s refrigeration compartment.

Symptoms

Useful observations.

01

Not holding temperature

The cabinet or pan rail is warmer than expected or drifts during service.

02

Ice or frost

Visible frost, ice on the evaporator area, or restricted airflow in the cabinet.

03

Water or odor

Water pooling under or inside the unit, or an unusual smell.

04

Noise or constant running

A new sound, a fan that sounds different, or a unit that never seems to cycle off.

Safe checks

Gather details without opening panels.

  • Keep the door gaskets visible and note any tears or gaps.
  • Check that vents are not blocked by product or packaging.
  • Note recent loading, cleaning, or relocation of the unit.
  • Record the display and a separate product temperature reading.
  • Read model and serial plates only if safely accessible.
  • Provide an onsite contact and access window.

Do not remove electrical covers, handle refrigerant, or dismantle the unit.

Repair or replace

Equipment age and condition matter.

A provider may consider the diagnosed fault, unit age, repair history, parts availability, and the business’s replacement plans. A symptom alone does not decide the outcome.
